As per sources from ESPN, Delon Wright, previously with the Utah Utes, has reached an agreement on a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards. It’s anticipated that once this deal is finalized, Wright will join the Miami Heat, a competitive team in the Eastern Conference.
Throughout 33 games played for the Wizards this season, Wright has maintained averages of 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists with shooting splits of 39.3/36.8/82.8.
The shift from playing in the capital to joining the Heat in South Beach might come as a surprise to Wright. The Wizards, holding the 14th seed in the East with a record of 9-45, contrast starkly with the Heat, who are striving to replicate their previous season’s success and vie for playoff contention.
Wright’s most recent stint with a championship-contending team was with the Toronto Raptors in 2018-19. Currently, the Miami Heat occupy the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30-25.
While this record would typically signify playoff aspirations for most teams, the Heat are no strangers to playoff runs, having reached the NBA Finals last season as the 8th seed. Battling injuries throughout the season, Miami aims to strengthen its guard rotation with the addition of Wright.
