Leeds United will welcome back winger Daniel James to their squad for Tuesday’s Championship match against Swansea City, but they will continue to miss the presence of Sam Byram.
James has been instrumental for Leeds this season, contributing 10 goals and six assists in 27 Championship appearances.
While Byram’s experience is valued, his susceptibility to injuries has been a concern since his return to the club in the summer. However, there is optimism that his current issue won’t sideline him for long.
“Sam Byram has picked up some minor muscle injuries after the last game, ruling him out for this match,” confirmed Farke. “We’re hopeful it’s not a prolonged absence and just a minor setback. Although we’ll await the scan results, he won’t feature tomorrow.”
“Jamie Shackleton is back in training but unavailable due to personal reasons, so the squad remains largely unchanged.”
Regarding Byram’s injury, Farke explained: “It’s a hamstring problem, but not the same one as before. It’s minor, and given our tight schedule, we’re cautious not to exacerbate it into a more serious issue. He won’t be in contention tomorrow, but we’re optimistic about his return for the weekend, certainly for the following game.”
The recent impressive performances of Willy Gnonto on the wing provide flexibility in reintegrating James, whether it’s starting or coming off the bench. Nonetheless, James’ return, even if only as a substitute, will undoubtedly boost morale as the Welsh international, hailing from Hull, returns to the club where he made his senior debut.
“Gnonto has been consistent with his contributions, which is positive, but having Daniel back is great news,” Farke remarked. “He was in terrific form before his injury, adding significant value to our attacking play. With the busy schedule ahead, having another top-quality option like Daniel is a welcome addition.”
