Bellingham, who netted twice in the crucial top-of-the-table showdown, was substituted just before the 60th minute at the Santiago Bernabeu due to discomfort in his ankle. Brahim Diaz took his place for the remainder of the match.
Real Madrid has officially disclosed the results of Bellingham’s medical evaluation, stating: “Following today’s examinations conducted by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Jude Bellingham has been diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain in his left foot. Further progress to be monitored.”
Although Madrid hasn’t specified a timeline for his recovery, reports from Spain suggest he could be sidelined for approximately three weeks. The second leg of the Champions League last 16 against RB Leipzig on March 6 is a potential return target.
Bellingham is expected to miss the first leg against Leipzig this Tuesday and the subsequent match against Rayo Vallecano next Sunday.
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad will face Sevilla on February 25, followed by a trip to Valencia on March 2, with hopes of Bellingham’s return for these fixtures.
Since joining Madrid from Borussia Dortmund last summer, Bellingham has only missed one game due to injury, sitting out a win against Valencia in November due to a shoulder issue. He has been in prolific form, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in 29 appearances for Madrid this season.
In addition to Bellingham’s absence, Madrid is currently dealing with injuries to Antonio Rudiger, who has a thigh strain, and David Alaba, who is out for the rest of the season with an ACL tear. However, Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois may return from similar injuries before the season concludes.
