Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that the intricate nature of Dominik Szoboszlai’s injury casts doubt on his availability for Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea. The midfielder’s recurrent hamstring issue, with a focus on the tendon, presents the main concern for the Reds.
Szoboszlai missed the recent match against Arsenal and will again be sidelined for Burnley’s upcoming fixture at Anfield. With the Wembley final looming in two weeks, Klopp remains uncertain about the involvement of the £60 million summer signing.
Klopp explained, “The muscle isn’t the primary concern; it’s the tendon that’s problematic. Surprisingly, the tendon isn’t causing pain, leading the player to believe he’s fit to play. However, he’s unaccustomed to this type of injury.”
He elaborated on Szoboszlai’s history of long-term issues and the player’s eagerness to return to action. Klopp stated, “He’s been plagued by problems before but has typically managed to play through them. He’s not known for his patience. As for the final, it’s uncertain.”
Klopp emphasized the need for caution, observing that while the player may appear to be progressing in his recovery, it could still take time. He concluded, “He’s back to running outside, but appearances can be deceptive. We’ll have to wait and see.”
