Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, shed light today on the possibility of Miguel Gutiérrez returning to the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Gutiérrez left the Spanish capital permanently in the summer of 2022 after only making nine appearances for Real Madrid in La Liga. Seeking more consistent playing time, the left-back ventured elsewhere.
Since then, Gutiérrez has flourished, amassing 34 league appearances last season and becoming a key figure in Girona’s defense this term. He has started in nearly all of the club’s matches, contributing to their unexpected push for the La Liga title.
Despite his success at Girona, the potential for a reunion with Real Madrid remains significant. Real still hold 50% of Gutiérrez’s playing rights, suggesting a deal akin to Fran García’s transfer last summer could be pursued for the Spanish youth international.
Ancelotti’s recent comments to the media indicate that Gutiérrez’s return is under consideration, especially given reports that he turned down a lucrative move to the Premier League in January in hopes of returning to the Santiago Bernabéu.
While the outcome may be influenced by Real Madrid’s pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Ancelotti hinted at the possibility of Gutiérrez’s transfer, acknowledging his considerable improvement at Girona and suggesting a decision will be made in the summer: “Miguel Gutiérrez has improved a lot at Girona. He’s playing very well — so we will decide in [the] summer what to do.”
