The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Calvin Pickard to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $1 million.
The 32-year-old netminder played in 23 games for Edmonton during the 2023-24 season, making 20 starts in his first year with the Oilers and second within the organization.
Pickard began the season with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, where he played four games with a 2-2-0 record before being recalled to Edmonton on November 8. Throughout his 23 games, he achieved a 12-7-1 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
During the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Pickard made three appearances, including a crucial second-round start and win against the Vancouver Canucks, finishing with a 1-1 record, a 2.21 GAA, and a .915 SV%.
The Moncton, N.B. native made his first start with the Oilers on November 21 in Florida and secured his first win with the team on December 10 against the New Jersey Devils, saving 25 shots.
He earned his fifth career shutout in his 100th career start on January 25 with a 27-save performance against Chicago and achieved a career-high six consecutive wins from December 22 to February 17.
Additionally, Pickard shared a combined shutout with Stuart Skinner on March 10 in Pittsburgh, making 41 saves.
