The St. Louis Blues are gearing up for the 2024-25 season by making significant additions to their coaching staff and promoting a veteran to the role of associate coach.
“St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that Steve Ott has been promoted to associate coach and his contract extended through the 2025-26 season,” stated the St. Louis Blues Press Release.
With a rich background as an assistant coach, Ott brings substantial veteran leadership to his new role. His experience working under various head coaches, notably Craig Berube, has significantly enriched his expertise.
Having played for the Blues from 2013 to 2016, the 41-year-old Ott has a deep connection to the city. As a former NHL player with a 14-year career, he shows potential as a future head coach, influenced by multiple mentors. His name is likely to be considered for future coaching opportunities.
Ott, who was part of the coaching staff during the 2019 championship victory, has a strong connection with Alexander Steen, the new GM in training.
Additionally, the Blues have named Claude Julien as an assistant coach and extended the contracts of Assistant Coach Mike Weber and Goaltending Coach David Alexander through the 2025-26 season, according to another announcement by the Blues.
Julien’s addition to the coaching staff brings valuable experience from his time as a head coach. The contract extensions for Weber and Alexander reflect the Blues’ commitment to continuity and development.
Alexander has been instrumental in Jordan Binnington’s growth over the past few years and has similarly elevated the expectations for young goaltender Joel Hofer.
With a solid coaching staff in place, Drew Bannister can lead his team with confidence as the 2024-25 season approaches.
