The Oilers’ captain, Connor McDavid, was absent from practice for the second consecutive day on Tuesday due to a lower-body injury. Consequently, there’s a possibility that he might miss Wednesday’s game against Vegas at Rogers Place. Head Coach Kris Knoblauch stated that McDavid is considered day-to-day, emphasizing that the decision on his participation will be made in collaboration with McDavid himself and the team’s medical staff.
McDavid’s injury occurred during Saturday’s match against the Battle of Alberta, where he earned his 98th and 99th assists of the season, totaling 130 points and ranking third in NHL scoring. Following that game, he experienced discomfort, which prevented his return to the ice. With uncertainty looming over McDavid’s availability, the Oilers have a three-day gap between games to evaluate his condition thoroughly.
Knoblauch highlighted McDavid’s pivotal role in the decision-making process regarding his return, acknowledging the importance of prioritizing his long-term health, especially with the playoffs on the horizon. The team is prepared to rely on its depth, exemplified by the recent call-up of Dylan Holloway, to compensate for McDavid’s potential absence and ensure the roster’s overall health leading into the postseason.
