Clark Hunt, the owner of the Chiefs, conveyed a message to voters in Jackson County ahead of Tuesday’s special election concerning a proposed 3/8-cent sales tax extension aimed at retaining both the Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals in the county.
In his message, Hunt highlighted the longstanding partnership between the Kansas City Chiefs and Jackson County, spanning over five decades. He emphasized the significant economic and community impact of this partnership, as well as its role in enhancing the regional and international profile.
Referring to the recent success of the Chiefs, including three Super Bowl victories in five years, Hunt described it as the “Golden Era of Chiefs Football” and urged voters to capitalize on this momentum.
Hunt expressed the team’s eagerness to maintain their relationship with Jackson County and stressed the importance of a “YES” vote on Question 1 to ensure the continuation of Chiefs football at Arrowhead Stadium. He clarified that the proposed sales tax extension is not a new tax but rather an extension of the existing agreement.
Highlighting the Chiefs’ commitment to Jackson County despite the trend of other franchises relocating or building new stadiums, Hunt underscored the significance of voter support in maintaining Arrowhead Stadium’s status as a top NFL facility. He mentioned Arrowhead’s upcoming role as a venue for FIFA World Cup games in 2026.
Hunt invoked his father’s sentiment about Arrowhead Stadium being his “favorite place on earth” and emphasized its significance to families in Jackson County, encouraging voters to join in securing its future as a home for the next generation of Chiefs fans.
