The Falcons successfully secured Kirk Cousins, but they may have stepped into murky waters, as Mike Florio suggests it’s the most obvious case of tampering he’s ever seen.
Atlanta signed Kirk Cousins to a lucrative four-year contract worth $180 million. However, Mike Florio, the founder of Pro Football Talk, contends that both the Falcons and Cousins engaged in potentially illegal activities.
During a recent episode of the What The Football podcast, Florio expressed his concerns about the Falcons’ pursuit of Cousins and their alleged tampering activities. He emphasized that while tampering is commonplace in the NFL, there’s usually a level of discretion involved. However, he believes the Falcons’ actions were flagrant.
The controversy stems from comments made by Cousins during his introductory press conference, where he revealed that he had been in contact with Kyle Pitts and other team personnel before the legal tampering period. Florio even suggested there might have been tampering within tampering, accusing Cousins of openly discussing it without concern.
Tampering is no secret in the NFL, but Florio, who supports the Vikings, insists this case is exceptionally brazen. Although the Falcons are under investigation, it’s uncertain if they’ll face significant consequences. In previous cases, such as the Miami Dolphins’ pursuit of Tom Brady, severe penalties were imposed, but Florio doubts a similar outcome in this scenario. Nevertheless, he anticipates some form of punishment from the league.
