PORT ST. LUCIE — Luis Severino eagerly anticipates wrapping up his final spring training duty and commencing the season in good health, a departure from his usual circumstances. Since 2018, he has rarely started a major league season without injury setbacks.
Reflecting on his recent performance of throwing 85 pitches in a minor league game, Severino expressed satisfaction, stating, “It is really nice… I feel really good. I have one more start.”
Throughout his career, Severino has grappled with various injuries, including a torn elbow ligament that led to Tommy John surgery. Despite these challenges, he managed to complete five innings against a Cardinals minor league team, acknowledging the formidable hitting skills of his opponents, which made it his most challenging game of the spring.
In another development, Jose Butto also participated in a minor league game and might potentially pitch for the Mets split-squad on Sunday.
Additionally, the Mets made roster adjustments by reassigning Kyle Crick, Ben Gamel, Yacksel Rios, Yolmer Sanchez, Cole Sulser, and Trayce Thompson to minor league camp.
