The New England Patriots chose not to extend qualifying offers to wide receiver Tre Nixon and linebacker Terez Hall as the 2024 league year began at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Both players are now free to sign with other teams after starting their NFL careers in Foxborough.
Nixon, aged 26, entered the league in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft, chosen at No. 242 overall. He spent two seasons on the Patriots’ practice squad before being waived due to a shoulder injury last preseason. Despite being eligible for an exclusive-rights free agent status, Nixon wasn’t tendered an offer by the Patriots.
Hall, aged 27, went undrafted in 2019 but was signed by the Patriots as a free agent. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad before starting four games in 2020. However, injuries have plagued his recent seasons, as he ended up on injured reserve in 2021 and spent part of 2022 on the physically unable to perform list. Despite being a restricted free agent, the Patriots didn’t offer Hall a qualifying offer.
