Mitchell Pearce, former Roosters and Knights player, recently discussed his struggles with alcohol, revealing that he abstained from drinking during his time in the Super League. Speaking with Yvonne Sampson on Fox League’s Face-to-Face, Pearce shared that he had made significant positive changes in his life.
Despite his undeniable talent in rugby league, off-field incidents often overshadowed his potential. Reflecting on the events of Australia Day in 2016, Pearce acknowledged his alcohol-related issues, stating, “It’s something I need to address.”
Recalling the infamous incident, Pearce expressed his embarrassment, especially when he had to face his mother and watch the footage with her. He ultimately decided to retire after the 2023 Super League season, citing a mental decision rather than physical limitations. Pearce felt excited about exploring new opportunities and moving forward with his life.
