Herzog, initially nicknamed “Whitey” due to his light blonde hair, embarked on his baseball journey as a player with the New York Yankees before transitioning into roles with the New York Mets, including a stint as director of player development during their 1969 World Series victory.
Following his playing career, Herzog managed several teams including the Texas Rangers, California Angels, and Kansas City Royals before finding his greatest success with the St. Louis Cardinals, leading them to a World Series win in 1982.
