The Cleveland Browns have opted to adjust the contract terms of Nick Chubb, a seasoned player who has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times, in response to his recent knee injury. This injury, occurring in Week 2 of the 2023 season and involving a torn anterior cruciate ligament, resulted in Chubb undergoing surgery twice. Given his history of injuries, concerns have arisen regarding his ability to return to his previous performance levels.
In the revised agreement, Chubb and the Browns have agreed to reduce his base salary from $11.75 million, providing him with the opportunity to regain it through performance-based incentives, as reported by the NFL Network. Throughout his six-year career, the 28-year-old has accumulated 6,511 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns. However, the Browns struggled to fill his role effectively last season, leading to a drop in their rushing performance, which fell out of the NFL’s top ten for the first time since 2019.
Information regarding Chubb’s recovery progress has been scarce, fueling speculation that he might be released due to salary cap constraints this offseason. This compromise allows Chubb the opportunity to reclaim his position in the Browns’ lineup while providing the team with financial safeguards.
