Could the Atlanta Falcons be harboring a potential Comeback Player of the Year contender?
The Falcons have inked a deal with a former Green Bay Packers player who has been sidelined for the past two seasons due to health issues. This move comes as part of the team’s efforts to finalize their roster ahead of the offseason training program.
According to an announcement by the Falcons, cornerback Kevin King has been added to the roster as of Monday afternoon.
As stated by the Falcons, King is making his comeback to the NFL after being absent for two consecutive seasons:
“King is returning to the NFL following a two-year hiatus.”
King brings with him five seasons of professional experience from 2017 to 2021. Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers from Washington in the second round, King spent four years on a rookie contract before agreeing to a one-year deal with the Packers in 2021.
In 2022, King opted to sit out the season for personal reasons, and he missed 2023 due to a torn Achilles tendon sustained during an offseason workout while preparing for training camp.
Before his injury, King had been a highly productive player with the Packers, starting in 42 games and amassing 197 total tackles, seven interceptions, and two forced fumbles over his first five years in the league.
The addition of King bolsters the Falcons’ secondary for the upcoming season, and there are hopes for a strong resurgence in his career.
Furthermore, the Falcons’ defense sees another player returning to action after a hiatus, with defensive tackle Eddie Goldman having signed with the team last week after sitting out the previous two seasons.
