During Sunday’s match against Hawthorn, Collingwood made a substitution in the midfield, swapping out veteran player Scott Pendlebury due to a rib injury sustained mid-game.
The former captain incurred the injury during a clash with Hawthorn’s Josh Weddle in the second quarter at Adelaide Oval. Despite initially choosing to continue playing, Pendlebury eventually left the field for medical attention just before halftime.
Collingwood confirmed his substitution, bringing in Steele Sidebottom as the tactical replacement. There are concerns that Pendlebury may have sustained a significant rib injury, possibly with a fracture, which could sideline him for several weeks.
Fortunately, Collingwood’s upcoming bye week might mitigate any missed game time for the 36-year-old. Following the break, Collingwood will face Port Adelaide in Round 6. Pendlebury had contributed six possessions and a goal before being replaced by Sidebottom, who returned to the field after being rested in Round 3.
