Today, the Los Angeles Chargers have officially inked a deal with versatile player Ben Mason, who can operate as a tight end or fullback.
Originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 184th overall pick, Mason brings his experience from spending parts of the last three seasons with the Ravens (2021-23), where he contributed to both the active roster and practice squad. Beginning his journey with Baltimore in 2021, Mason went on to have stints with the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears’ practice squads before returning to the Ravens in 2022. His NFL debut came in 2023 during Baltimore’s season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he made notable contributions primarily in special teams.
Hailing from Newtown, Connecticut, Mason showcased his skills over four seasons at the University of Michigan (2017-20), featuring prominently in various positions including backfield, tight end, and defensive front. Throughout his time at Michigan, Mason accumulated 87 yards on 37 carries with nine touchdowns, alongside three receptions for 32 yards and one receiving touchdown. Prior to his college career, Mason’s exceptional performance earned him recognition as the Connecticut Gatorade Football Player of the Year, demonstrating his prowess on both offensive and defensive fronts.
