The experienced closer has been contending with tightness in his back at the beginning of the regular season. Kenley Jansen, the seasoned closer for the Boston Red Sox, secured his inaugural save for the 2024 season on Thursday evening as the team clinched a 6-4 victory. Nonetheless, on Saturday night, the Red Sox were unable to utilize the seasoned relief pitcher due to a back problem.
Jansen informed reporters following Saturday’s match that he woke up with significant back discomfort and attempted to prepare for the game, but his condition wouldn’t permit it, according to Christopher Smith of Mass Live.
The 36-year-old Jansen also revealed that he experienced back tightness during spring training but assured everyone that it’s not a major concern.
“It’s not as severe as the one during spring training, but I still believe it’s unwise to pitch today and then risk being sidelined for two weeks,” as stated by Sean T. McGuire of NESN.
If you’re a Red Sox supporter, there may be apprehension regarding Jansen’s back, hoping it won’t develop into a persistent issue or that he won’t rush his return. Nevertheless, it appears both the Red Sox and Jansen are adopting the appropriate approach.
The Red Sox are optimistic that the veteran closer will be ready in the bullpen for Sunday’s showdown against the Seattle Mariners after losing the previous two games.
