Earlier today, Greg Scruggs, the defensive line coach at the University of Michigan, was apprehended by the Ann Arbor Police on suspicion of driving under the influence. This development was first reported by Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News, who confirmed Scruggs’ arrest with Chris Paige of the Ann Arbor Police Department.
Just ten days after being announced as the Wolverines’ DL coach, Scruggs’ arrest occurred. The timing of this incident is particularly noteworthy as Michigan is currently hosting recruits on campus, including three-star linebacker Luke Metz from Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek, as confirmed by Wolverine Digest.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore addressed the arrest in a statement released by the school, acknowledging Scruggs’ error and his accountability. The football program and athletic department have suspended Scruggs indefinitely pending a review of the incident.
Before joining Michigan, Scruggs coached the defensive line at Wisconsin for a season and served as an assistant defensive line coach with the New York Jets in 2022.
In his playing career, Scruggs was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft after playing four years at Louisville. He enjoyed a five-year tenure in the NFL, during which he contributed to two Super Bowl victories.
