Jason Kelce may harbor some resentment towards Eagles GM Howie Roseman. After announcing his retirement from the NFL on March 4 following a 13-year career solely with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce expressed a “regret” regarding his retirement decision in light of the news that Giants running back Saquon Barkley is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Eagles.
On the “New Heights” podcast he hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason mentioned the relentless comments on social media questioning his retirement choice after the Barkley news broke. He humorously remarked that it seemed Howie Roseman waited until he retired to make such a significant move. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the strategic advantage Barkley’s addition brings to the team, praising the potential to diversify their offensive tactics and highlighting Barkley’s ability to create explosive plays.
Travis also expressed excitement about the Eagles’ prospects for the upcoming season, prompting Jason to lament missing out on what seems to be a promising season for the team. Despite his regret, he acknowledged Barkley’s talent and the favorable circumstances he enters in Philadelphia with an established offensive line and coaching staff.
The brothers also addressed the reactions of some division rivals, including Tiki Barber and Dez Bryant, who weren’t pleased with Barkley joining the Eagles. They defended Barkley’s character, emphasizing his team-first mentality and dismissing any negative remarks.
The Barkley-Eagles deal follows the Giants’ decision not to franchise tag Barkley for a second consecutive year, leading to a revised one-year deal last season. Barkley’s impressive performance in the previous season underscores the significance of his addition to the Eagles’ roster.
