Per a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chicago Bears are set to secure the services of safety Kevin Byard on a two-year contract valued at $15 million. Further details regarding the terms of the agreement will be provided as they become available.
At 30 years of age, Byard was recently released by the Philadelphia Eagles as part of a cost-saving measure. During the previous season, he showcased his abilities with 122 tackles, one interception, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery,
while splitting his time between the Eagles (10 games) and the Tennessee Titans (6 games). Byard was acquired by Philadelphia from the Titans ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, with safety Terrell Edmunds and two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft going the other way.
Possessing ample experience and a versatile skill set, Byard is capable of playing both deep coverage and in closer proximity to the line of scrimmage. Over his eight-year career, the 5’11” and 212-pound safety has amassed 28 interceptions and 749 tackles.
Although the Bears have yet to formally announce the deal, Byard has acknowledged the impending move.
