In our recent poll, the sentiment among Denver Broncos fans regarding the Russell Wilson trade with the Seattle Seahawks is largely negative, with many considering it the worst trade in NFL history. Despite my efforts to influence the outcome by presenting other notably bad trade examples, the consensus remained unchanged.
Personally, I hold a differing opinion from the majority. While the trade may be perceived as unfavorable, I firmly believe it doesn’t surpass the infamous 1989 Herschel Walker trade between the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings, which ultimately shaped the trajectory of both teams significantly.
Upon reflection, I’m inclined to think that the Russell Wilson trade might not even crack the top five worst trades. Initially, I considered it a contender, but upon deeper consideration, I realized that what truly stings is the massive quarter-billion-dollar contract extension the Broncos offered Wilson before he even stepped onto the field in their colors. That aspect of the deal, in my view, is what truly exacerbates the situation.
