Michigan football has officially brought Brian Jean-Mary on board, as reported by The Michigan Insider. Jean-Mary is set to assume the roles of linebackers coach and run defense coordinator for the Wolverines.
The initial report of Jean-Mary’s recruitment by Sherrone Moore surfaced in mid-February. Following an extensive human resources process, his appointment was finalized on Tuesday afternoon. Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider previously commented on Jean-Mary’s background in mid-February. Despite a brief tenure in Ann Arbor in 2020, Jean-Mary garnered significant respect from his peers, including Moore. Known for his coaching stints at various institutions including Louisville, Texas, USF, and Tennessee, Jean-Mary has built a reputation as a developer and motivator, notably contributing to Tennessee’s defensive progress in 2021.
Before his recent roles, Jean-Mary served under Charlie Strong at Louisville, Texas, and USF. He initially began his coaching career at North Alabama before making a mark coaching linebackers at Georgia Tech.
Former Michigan assistant Vance Bedford praised Jean-Mary’s hiring by Jim Harbaugh in 2020, emphasizing his coaching style that combines firmness with genuine care for players. Jean-Mary’s prowess extends to recruiting, with notable successes in securing commitments for Michigan, showcasing his recruiting acumen akin to renowned recruiters like Greg Mattison and Clint Hurtt.
