A previous promising infield player from the Arizona Diamondbacks is relocating to a different city to join another team.
As per the announcement from the Detroit Tigers’ official public relations channel, they have acquired second baseman Buddy Kennedy via waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Originally drafted by Arizona in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Kennedy played for two seasons with the Diamondbacks following stints in the minor leagues.
In his debut season in 2022, the New Jersey native had a batting average of .217, hitting one home run and registering 12 RBIs in 30 games.
During the last season, Kennedy appeared in 10 games with Arizona, batting .167 with one RBI. On Sept. 6, the Diamondbacks designated the 25-year-old for assignment to make room for catcher Seby Zavala, who was claimed off waivers.
Prior to the end of the 2023 season, Kennedy was claimed by the Oakland Athletics and spent time with their Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators, playing 11 games.
On Oct. 25, 2023, the St. Louis Cardinals claimed him off waivers, only to designate him for assignment once again later.
Now, Kennedy will aim to secure his position in the MLB roster with the Tigers as the regular season approaches.
