Might the Philadelphia Eagles poach a key player from a divisional rival?
Per ESPN’s latest predictions for free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles could be targeting an integral piece of the Dallas Cowboys’ offense this offseason: running back Tony Pollard.
Pollard, who was drafted by the Cowboys in 2019 while Kellen Moore served as offensive coordinator, has seen his role expand over four seasons under Moore’s guidance. With expertise in Moore’s system, Pollard offers a versatile skill set that aligns with the Eagles’ preferences, showcasing over 3,600 rushing yards and 1,300 receiving yards during his tenure in Dallas.
However, the determining factor may be finances. Historically cautious with investments in the running back position, the Eagles may hesitate to commit significant funds. Despite a successful 2023 season, there’s uncertainty surrounding the future of their current running back, D’Andre Swift. Yet, with running back salaries experiencing a decline and several notable names available in free agency, including Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley, Pollard might not secure the desired contract, especially after a slightly underwhelming 2023 performance.
After a promising season that saw them narrowly miss out on Super Bowl contention due to a controversial pass interference call, the Philadelphia Eagles entered 2023 with high expectations. A strong start to the season had fans anticipating another Super Bowl run, but a late-season slump resulted in the team relinquishing their divisional title and faltering in the NFC Wild Card Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ultimately ending their postseason aspirations with a lopsided 32-9 defeat.
