Ben Shelton, who recently arrived in Dallas, has commenced his training sessions in preparation for the upcoming Dallas Open, scheduled to begin on February 5.
Making his presence known on social media, Shelton shared a captivating snapshot of Dallas’ skyline and posted a photo of his gym training for the tournament. In the main draw of the event, the American player will be alongside fellow countrymen Frances Tiafoe, the top seed, Tommy Paul, the second seed, and a resurgent Adrian Mannarino as the fourth seed.
Riley Opelka, the 2022 tournament winner, secured a wildcard entry into the main draw. Notable players like Christopher Eubanks, Max Purcell, and Alex Michelsen are also scheduled to participate.
The Dallas Open, an ATP 250 tournament, will take place at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Texas, United States, from February 5 to 11. Last year’s champion, Wu Yibing, won in a thrilling three-set match against John Isner. Starting from the next edition, the tournament is set to be elevated to ATP 500 status.
Ben Shelton began his 2024 season as the third seed at the Brisbane International but faced an early exit in the first round, losing to Roman Safiull in three sets.
After Brisbane, Shelton participated in the ASB Classic in Auckland, reaching the semifinals. Despite victories over Fabian Marozsan and Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets, he was defeated by Taro Daniel in the semifinal, ending his title aspirations.
His performance at the Australian Open included straight-set victories over Roberto Bautista Agut and Christopher O’Connell in the first and second rounds. However, he faced a setback in the third round against Adrian Mannarino, losing the first set but rebounding to win the next two before ultimately exiting the tournament after losing the next two sets.
